Self-publishing has grown over the past decade, even high-profile authors such as Stephen King, are now choosing to publish some of their work themselves.
A report last year by self-publishing champion Hugh Howey, showed self-published authors are now earning nearly 40% of all ebook royalties on the Kindle store, the days of looking at self-publishing as a last option are long gone.
Last Saturday I had the opportunity to showcase the 2nd book in the Detective Jill Brennan series, Killing Sunday at the Byron Bay Writer’s Festival as part of an exciting new initiative for indie authors to connect with thousands of potential readers. The perfect weather and big name writers attracted record numbers to the festival.
Thanks to Editing in Paradise who sponsored the indie marquee for the three-day festival, I had the good fortune to share ‘Watching the Detective’ session with Byron Bay writer, Christina Larmer. Christina has self-published eight books and has sold 28,000 e-books through Amazon, Apple, Nook, Kobo and Smashwords.
