I am a great admirer of Thomas Hardy’s work. I have read all of his Wessex Tales novels. Far from the Madding Crowd secured his position as a great Victorian novelist but my favourite of the Wessex Tales is Jude the Obscure. Hardy enchants with his use of dark, sweeping narratives. Forget Jane Austin, Hardy does it for me.
Far from the Madding Crowd has recently been released in cinemas. I haven’t seen the movie yet. Have you? How does it compare with the novel?
